Whether you just use blow-up floats and rafts in an actual pool, or take them along to the beach or lake, they get dirty. Of course, you don’t want to clean them too roughly, or you’ll end up with holes. The good news is you probably have everything you need to clean them in your pantry.

Pool float brand, FUNBOY (of floating Disco Dome and Cabana fame), and Vera Peterson, president of Molly Maid, shared a few ways to make sure those fun summer accessories stay clean. One suggested ingredient probably won’t surprise you. Yep, it’s vinegar!

Yes, that household cure-all is also the way to go when it comes to cleaning pool floats. FUNBOY recommends combining one part white vinegar with two parts water in a spray bottle.

Spritz the entire float, then use a gentle sponge (definitely avoid the steel wool) to wipe away dirt, grime, and bacteria. Rinse your floats with a hose or bucket of water, then let them dry in the sun.

Peterson recommends deflating and submerging floats in a bucket of vinegar and water for a quick clean.

No matter which method you choose, you’ll have squeaky clean floats to use for the rest of the season.

Of course, if you’ve already poked holes in some of your floats, or you’re just looking to add more to your collection, here are some of our faves.
